ODE TO THE PAINT RAG

Eileen has often been struck by how beautiful paint rags become after much use. She began asking friends to save their paint rags for her. During the pandemic, she started creating grounds for some of them to be sewn into. Along the way, she had a serious back injury, which took her out of the studio for quite some time. Hand sewing paint rags into canvas was work she still could do. So something that started as a quirky idea became a full blown exploration during this time. She doesn’t expect others to understand her love for discarded paint rags but she was compelled to upcycle them into art. As Gertrude Stein, once said “there is no such thing as repetition, only insistence“.
