SPIRIT DANCE

In June 2003, Eileen‘s partner Steve Derrickson passed away after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. He was a lifelong artist and had a number of used dropcloths.

While Steve was still alive, Eileen asked if she might use these dropcloths to make art. He enthusiastically supported this idea. She washed them to remove the dust, but left behind the wonderful patinas… Drops of paint, etc.

A couple of dropcloth pieces in the “basement tab,” of this website were indeed started before Steve passed away. He was thrilled, and so after he passed, Eileen began the body of work reflected below. She calls it SPIRIT DANCE because she feels Steve’s presence in the making of these pieces. She is grateful to have a tangible way to work through her grief.
